How you manage to find the “hidden me” when you do my makeup, mystifies me. Not only do I look in the mirror when you’re done and see some facet of myself that I’d never seen, but you manage to find a pretty lady hiding under the usual wrinkles and bags. No wonder my friends and colleagues say to me each time you’ve “worked me over” : “Why don’t you look like that all the time?”It’s amazing that each “job” you’ve done on my face and hair literally allows me to put on a different face. So, by turns, I’ve been a 20”s vamp for a costume ball, a respectable authority (for an appearance on Charlie Rose), a glamourous professor, (for an NYU promotional video), and glowing mother-of-the groom. Years ago, I had my first makeup trial with Ilise when I was researching an article on different, local beauty boutiques. Out of the half-dozen or so makeovers I received, Ilise's made me feel the most beautiful while also feeling the most natural. She truly achieved the ideal of enhancing my look while still making me feel 100% like myself. Years later, when it was time to plan my wedding, Ilise was the first and only person I thought of to do my wedding hair and makeup--I'd saved her contact information for all that time. Immediately she understood the fun, less formal vibe I was going for and created a look that was better than any inspiration photo I gave her. It still felt totally natural, and totally like myself. Thanks Ilise! You did such a fantastic job on all of us. I couldn’t believe how you whipped my hair into an amazing sculpture in no time and really captured a glamorous yet natural feel. My mom’s make-up and hair were both perfect (not something she could have done by herself, for sure), and it was amazing how you swept Jen’s hair up into a style that worked perfectly for her. Lest I forgot, Andrew’s mom & sister’s hair were both stunning, especially considering they both felt completely comfortable in the glamorous yet not over-done hairstyles you did for them. I think you were really successful at quickly getting a feel for each of our personalities and creating a hairstyle to match. Most importantly, you kept us all sane because you being there allowed us to not stress over all these details! With all the activity on our wedding day, I tried to stay focused on the important things. Patty. When I saw her coming down the aisle I saw her smile and that said it all. The entire scene was perfect; the dress, the hair, the makeup. This was the moment we had waited for and talked about, and here it was, perfect. Patty is naturally beautiful and very rarely wears makeup. I think Ilise realized this and paid careful attention to Patty’s aesthetic. The look was subtle but very effective.
